Somehow, after years of the pounds creeping on, I got into a program that was right for me. It includes one on one in person sessions, weekly weigh ins, prepackaged meals which taste much better than TV dinners, and I have actually been able to stay with it. The first 3 months I lost 25 pounds. On a 5 day trip I managed to put 5 pounds back on. How you ask? Well, I made a mistake. I said, out loud, I am on vacation from my diet. That is all my rebellious side needed to hear! and away I went. The result was I gained 5 pounds back and spent the next 3 months struggling to get my eating habits back on track, lose that 5 pounds, and start back on my weight loss journey.
Miracles happen! Although it is the Christmas season, I lost 2 pounds this week, making a new total loss of 27 pounds. That does not sound like so much, except I have been struggling for so long to get there. I have to continue changing my life style, my eating habits, my way of thinking and speaking. What we say does influence what we do. The biggest miracle is that I did not give up 3 months ago. Now I am reaping the benefits.
I love the holidays and love the traditional foods. Did you know you can actually cook low fat to fat free and sugar free or no sugar added? This cuts out a lot of the dangers of Christmas. My daughter and her sister-in-law made an effort cook this way for Thanksgiving. The food was delicious and I did not gain any weight.
It is great through the struggle to have someone cheering you on and not let you lie to yourself. My counselor understood the whys of my eating. She did not expect me to change everything all at once, nor to stay on my diet perfectly. She applauded me when I did not give up and kept on coming to my weekly sessions whether I gained or lost weight.
My ego feels better now. Hope some of you can relate to my ramblings. Merry Christmas and God bless you.
