Halloween is here! Just Say No to Over Treating

Halloween is here!  Remember your strategy to avoid eating the candy?

1.  Eat a nutritious meal before the festivities start

2. Put on a costume with features that make it hard to snack. Vampire teeth, facial makeup, fake hands.

3. Make sure you will have to do some activity, like popping out from behind a bush or bale of hay.  Or maybe have a gorilla suit so you can jump up and down. Sit on the opposite side of the room from the door so you will have to walk to the door each time the bell rings.

4.  Have healthy snacks handy to grab when the candy temptation comes along.

5.  Just say no and don’t eat or drink the sugar and fats that go along with Halloween.

Another plan is to set aside a small portion of treats to have that evening, and stop with that portion.

When your kids come in with bags of candy, portion some into zip lock bags with names on the bags and number them also.  Maybe fix about 5 bags each.  Once a day, you can all sit down and get your bag of candy for that day together.  Make it a family activity.  Send the rest to work with dad, or take it yourself.

Above all, relax and have fun.  Halloween comes but once a year.
