One of the most important elements our body requires is water. I believe everyone is aware that a human can live longer without food than without water. Water does so much for our bodies, one of the most important being to take the ‘garbage’ out. When we finish dinner, we put the waste down the garbage disposal or in the trash. When our body is finished with the food/drink, it sends the leftovers to our bladder and colon.
One of the most interesting articles I have read on water talks about drinking 8 ounces a day. This article suggests that we should drink our water in quantities – drink one quart of water within 30 minutes 4 times a day. By drinking in ‘quantity’ the water is able to ‘wash-out’ our systems. This includes cleansing our bodies from toxins, fats, chemicals, and anything else that should not be there.
Another article I ready suggested drinking a gallon of water a day for our health and increasing this to two gallons a day to lose weight. I don’t know if there is such a thing as too much water. I am doing good to drink the 8 glasses a day which seems to be a standard amount. I know I feel better and my attempts to lose weight are much more successful when I do drink this amount. (I read those articles years ago, so I don’t remember the sources.)
What about our water? I get quarterly reports on the quality of the tap water in my city. The list of elements found in the water is amazing. In fact, right after I had researched many articles on distilled water, spring water, and purified water, the thought of water turned my stomach. I went out and bought a good filter for the water going into my refrigerator. That way both my ice from the ice maker and the cool water tap in the front of the refrigerator were filtered. But, you have to replace the filter periodically or bacteria and such can grow in the filter.
Good news- you only have to watch your water sources to be sure you have good water. If your tap water is analyzed, then you can look over the report and decide if you want to drink it. The labels on bottled water will tell you if it is purified, distilled, or treated. Remember, spring water tastes good, but it is not distilled, so it may contain more contaminants than distilled water. I am not sure what the FDA does to regulate bottled water.
Bottom line – we cannot get out of drinking water. Even coffee, tea, and Coke/Pepsi are made up of water. So don’t stop drinking water, be sure to get your 8 glasses a day, but do check out your water supply.
Does anyone know what the FDA requirements are on water? Please let us know. Leave a comment.
